Shot a group photo into the sunset, nine out of ten came out as silhouettes. Brighten it in Lightroom and the sky turns to mush—basically deleted the best part to get the faces back. Need both: faces out of the shadows with natural skin (no smoothing, no whitening), that rim light still there; sun, clouds, colors completely untouched. Same poses, clothes, hair—just finally see the people. Tweaked it "a bit darker, just enough to see their eyes" and that's the keeper.
